Fill your gas tank in North Fork and grab a map before you head up Road 225 to Minarets Road and the 100 miles of scenic beauty that makes a loop through rugged country. Seasonally enjoy homemade pie at Jones’s Store, or a burger and beer at Wagner’s Store at Mammoth Pool. Amazing vistas are around every turn in the road — without the crowds! See ancient giant Sequoias in Nelder Grove and get a photo of Globe Rock. This adventure will take most of the day with interesting stops along the way, so pack a picnic or plan on camping overnight. Maps and much more information is available at the North Fork Visitors Center (559 877 2410), the Scenic Byway Association (559 877 7779), and Bass Lake Ranger District Headquarters (559 877 2218). Enjoy!
